  1. No 1 is the Gorgon head from the Roman Baths at Bath, some say to be Oceanus but some controversy exists.

No 4 is a Tibaldi Italian pen from Italy.

No 8 are Pulaski Curio Cabinets from the USA

  2. Excellent stuff Rog ~ 1. I tend to think of the Gorgons (with no supporting evidence) as being in the same gene-pool as Medusa (hair-dressers night-mare). I can emote with this face as Oceanus, the son of Kaos and Gaea, his slightly puzzled expression sits well on a son of chaos ~ 4. I think $44,000 plus tax is a bit steep for a glorified goose-quill but if Signor Tibaldi can get it, good luck to him ~ I believe the pilgrims' descendants tend to style these larger cabinets as consoles to make them sound more expensive; unlike 5 which are clearly curio cabinets and 9 which is a curious cabinet.

    3. Yes, and without being vain, a pretty little vane she is too.
    6. Venetian gondolier's batons of office.
    7. Yes Mike, they went by the apt name of 'bosun's starter', also known as 'the rope's end'.
